Gregory J. Fleming 

Gregory James Fleming, 19, of 420 Topping Hill Rd., died early Friday in Rahway Hospital from injuries he received when his motorcycle was struck by a car at 8:20 p.m. Thursday on Central Ave. near Sussex St.

Nathaniel Randolph, 18, of Plainfield, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the incident. His car, bearing stolen license plates, was found abandoned in a parking lot not far from the scene. He was released this week on $1,000 bail.

Mr. Fleming, born in Detroit, Mich., had lived in Westfield for IS years. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Richard Fleming; two brothers, Rick of Warren Township and Tom of Westfield; a sister, Nanci; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Mensing of Sun City Center, Fla.; and his paternal .grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Fleming of . Lansing, Mich.

Memorial services were hold in the Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad St.

I remember Greg, and his funeral, my daughter was a baby when he died.  He worked on the corner at the gas station and the last thing I remember about him was getting gas one day and he waving at Meghan and smiling in the car.  That was hard when he died, so senseless.  My father who only knew him from the station was heartbroken.  He was well liked by all.

In the 7th grade at Roosevelt Jr High Greg and I had the exact same schedules including home room. We could not have had more fun. We remained friends throughout the rest of our school years. I never saw him after high school graduation but I think of him from time to time. What a good guy.
